For 6 months my baby was on milk only. And when I was a pro at producing and feeding milk, changes take place. Time for solid as additional to the milk intake.
So I started with homemade puree.
Then I came across Heinz at one of the baby fair. All the baby food brands are new to me, except that whenever I see Heinz (even b4 I have a baby), my impression is that it is a good baby food brand. Somehow.. I don't know why.. just a feeling, and I've never surveyed their products.
And so since it left a lasting impression in my mind, I picked a few things from the booth (as I was in a rush), to try out. These will be used when I have no time to do puree. They even let me tried on the Splat - strawberry + apple flavour.... and it was NICE! However this will be for lo's consumption after 8-9months old.
Friends did introduce other brands like Happy Baby. So I further did a quick online research and found out that Heinz was founded in 1869 and the products are made in Australia, where else Happy Baby was founded in 2006. No wonder Heinz has a lasting impression on me, perhaps I've seen them from baby time? .. my assumption as I did not further verify with my mom.
The jar baby food from Heinz I was told it has to be consumed within 48 hours after opening due to it does not have preservative. The jar food to be kept in fridge after opening and the Splat can be chilled or frozen before consuming so when you take it out and eat it will be cold and nice.
Heinz still have other products which I have yet to explore. Still I will try my best to produce homemade food for lo and learning new things from time to time.

Boba 3g carrier review
This is the Montenegro Boba 3g that was bought and excited to do the review after testing it out.
Nowadays we bring this together with the stroller when doing weekend family shopping and last weekend I got to test it out without the stroller, just me and lo shopping at JB Premium outlet.
I was there for about 4.5hours with about 45minutes break for food. The whole time, was carrying lo in this except for the break time.
I was wearing flats, carrying a backpack which contained diaper, wet tissue, nappy cream, a bottle of water, ebm and bottles and after the shopping, I did not feel any pain or tiredness on my shoulder nor my back.
Lo seems comfortable in this and slept soundly while I shopped or looking around when awake and getting much attention from the sales person of each shop.
At the bottom of this carrier around the hip strap in front (below lo's butt), there are some compartments (open and zipped), where I can slot my handphone and credit card (so save the trouble of taking your wallet/wristlet/purse in and out).
When lo is asleep, sun shinning down, I used the head cover, other times I left it open.
Totally worth the RM349 (BB expo discounted price, retail at RM388) for I can travel light and lo feels secure. Thumbs up for this product. Loving it.
My comparisons on other carriers before getting this can be found here.

Persimmon Puree
Persimmon Puree is pretty easy to make, make sure you choose the one that is ripe (a little soft when pressed).
1. Peel the skin of the Persimmon
2. Cut the fruit and put it on a siever
3. Sieve it
4. Ready to be served / Put in storage container to freeze it
Lo loves this one.

When can my baby drink water?
When my baby was born, pediatrician and hospital said babies do not need to be fed with water until 6 months. Then I had a good CL (good in cooking/clean, love babies, etc) but little did I knew that lo was fed with water when had hiccups. I immediately told CL that lo does not need water for 6 months. My mistake for not informing beforehand.
On the first week my hb came back after taking bb for jaundice test, he was mumbling and said need to feed baby with water (according to a friend or someone, I forgot what he was saying) and said SDMC paed bluff him, said no need give water for 6 months. I forgot what he was relating to, but I said it's true. BB do not need water for 6 months as I read in the article and forward the article to him. So he understood thereafter.
My aunt told me that both her grandchildren was trained by her CL to drink water. Even in their sleep after finishing one bottle of formula milk, they will automatically grabbed another bottle of water next to it (I assumed they would have been a grown up that time since can get another bottle on their own). However I do not think this is applicable to newborn as babies have small tummy and drinking a bottle of water may cause 'water intoxication'.
As my lo hiccup-ed quite often (even in tummy), my mum has been hinting to me to give him some water to stop the hiccup and when weather is hot to give him some water to drench the thirst despite knowing that I would object furiously but she was trying her luck. (I fully bf lo already that time). Eventually I think she googled up the info herself (yes she does that alot) and did not bring up this again until after 6 months. Haha...
I was once a new mother whom lack of info and was half hearted whether to follow ped's advice or the elderly. I choose the real expert instead of self expert.
Another reason and believe from the elderly (or even younger mom), if you do not train early aka from birth, they will not drink water later.
If you would have accessed to these info in advance, would you still give lo below 6months water? It's up to individual really as this is not a law. Afterall, everyone strive to give their child the best.... in different ways.

Enjoying the luxury of DL
When I had objective (to produce milk) to meet for my previous 2 trips, I was over supply. For my 2nd trip to Bandung preparation, I aimed for 1 pack of 6oz to store every alternate days, but I almost have storage daily sometimes up to 2 packs. And before I left for Bandung, I have 11 bottles in the fridge enough for 1.5 days consumption before starting to use the frozen ones.
Upon coming back from Bandung, I was utmost relax. Especially when I have no preplanned trip ahead and still have fbm in the freezer. So I started cutting down pumping and DL whenever possible. Was enjoying the less washing of bottles and pump parts from days to months. For 6 weeks I pumped averagely twice a day and sometimes once a day. I have enough to rotate till that one day it meets only the daily consumption.
Did not panicked as I have fbm to support but I started to manage the supply so it is still enough for daily and not use the fbm. Because if I rely on the fbm and not push up my supply, it will be lesser and lesser. And I gave away 10 packs of 6oz to my friend. Actually for all mothers with enough daily supply knows that the fbm will eventually be given away or milk spa, etc. It is merely for emergency backup or when lo is not with you.
From my experience, once I DL long term, the body adjusted to baby's actual needs. I'm really enjoying DL as it is easier and less work. If I DL whenever I'm back from work, there is practically NO BOTTLES TO WASH and NO PUMPING after work on weekdays. This is truly luxury for FTWM and we can spend more time with baby.
But also monitoring the supply so that have 1 bottle of min 3oz to spare daily. Used to pump average of 4 times when oversupply but now mostly twice or when in need of more then 3 times. My friend said as long as you continue to DL and pump, the supply will be there.
Still drinking red dates water on most days (hardly plain water).
Lo is almost 7 months now.

Avocado Puree
It is really simple to prepare Avocado Puree and lo likes it more than Apple Puree.
Sorry, no pics but here are the steps:
1. Cut the Avocado into half
2. Sieve it using Combi set (refer Apple Puree for the Combi set).
(I sieved the entire avocado)
3. Store it in the storage cup of 2oz and freeze them.
I started with 1 Avocado for 4 cups to see if lo takes it. Thereafter 1 avocado for 3 cups storage.
Serving:
- Thaw in fridge
- Mix with 15-20ml of breastmilk.
As a FTWM, we do not always get to serve fresh to lo, so just do the best we could to provide it to lo. Afterall, it is our homemade with love puree.

Baby Carrier
I thought I would never need a baby carrier. Then I changed my mind when I needed to do some chores and lo is screaming for attention, just for home usage. So I got a local brand around +-RM80, not too expensive and can help me for a short period I thought. Hb said I will not use it, but I insisted I need it for times when there are no other helping hands.
I used it a few times (twice maybe) but my back easily pain. However again, it will be a short use. Then there was once we went outing (hb marathon) and I was with the baby and carrier would be the best option. Stroller will be too bulky and if baby does not want to sleep inside (a bassinet of Bugaboo Chameleon 3) I would need to carry the baby and maneuver the stroller. So I used the carrier, it was manageable, but I was not entirely comfy for more than an hour if you want my honest opinion.
** Also, my mistake was I did not try with the baby on it when I bought.
So as of recent, I saw some mommies postings on good carrier and many recommended Boba among other good ones. I surveyed online reviews and youtube on it on various types recommended and decided I would get Boba 4g (latest product with infant seat) and an inch wider. Actually I do not need that infant seat, but just for the latest and since price difference is about RM20ish only.
And at the same time, the next day is the last day of Baby Expo. They have the same discount online but I thought I would like to test it out first. We spent 8.5hours there, exploring other things and searching for the Boba.
Ergo
When I saw Fabulous Mom booth, I asked for Boba, they did not bring. So I tried on Ergo with the baby. Wow... it was nice. The strap padded and soft and nice to carry. The lady told me after discount is RM399 and only have one range there. After going to another booth to try Boba, I came back to Ergo and tried. The strap for Ergo is softer thus nice to carry but on the waist strap I felt a little more pressure compared to Boba. I thought it might not be comfy if long hours. Somehow this time was told Ergo is RM371.00 (not RM399?).
Boba 3g
Then we came across this shop selling Boba but left with Boba 3g (dusk), 4g sold out. I tried on it, it was equally comfy except that the shoulder pad felt more stiff compared to Ergo. But the waist area was feeling great. So we decided to stick to Boba.
Boba 4g
We were told by this Medula booth that another booth is selling Boba 4g (cos she saw us wanted the 4g so much but theirs sold out). Such a nice owner... We tried out the 4g, the cloth is slightly softer than 3g and after putting lo on infant seat, ended up too high and needs to be removed. So it wasn't really necessary.
Boba Air
I tried on this too, it's very light and can fold till very handy. However it is not padded thus no support for long term usage. This is the cheapest in the Boba family retail at RM220, during promo was selling slightly below RM200. But again, I need a good back support.
BOBA 3G - my choice
Eventually we got the Boba 3g from the nice owner (medula) at RM349 after 10% discount and just for 3g only they have an additional free Boba pouch for this expo purchase. I chose Montenegro color (complete black) as it looks elegantly simple and nice. They delivered it to me and only left 1 at their shop.
I guess for my lifestyle, I do need a good baby carrier and I do foresee I would prefer the carrier over stroller in the coming future especially during traveling.
It's always trial and error when getting baby stuff. Do try it out before you buy or get a reputable one so you maximize the worth of the money spent.
Later I found the Boba 3g is recommended in the article for The Best Baby Carrier of 2013.

Attipas Shoes
9 Adidas and 1 Tommy Hilfiger |
One day my friend was getting 2 bees rompers for her son. And before that he has owned a bee swimsuit. So I asked, why are you making your son into a bee?
Then she said, because I bought this shoes.... So she sent me the pic of a Yellow Rainbow shoes. Looks interesting I thought. I asked where she bought, she said Isetan KLCC. Then later sent me Tinker Toddler link and youtube regarding this Attipas shoes.
My question to her, isn't it cant wear shoes before 1 year old? She said it's like socks and soft shoes.
Next question when I got to know that retail price is RM90 and online price is RM80 + delivery fees RM7 (above RM200 free delivery), is it a waste because the price is actually for the functionality of the shoes and now he cannot walk yet, then she said that she bought M size which would have probably last till her lo at 1yo (the website stated up to 18months for M).
And seeing the functionality of the shoes from the youtube link, I felt that this is really something good especially designed for prewalker and toddlers. And my initial intention of not getting any more shoes got diverted:
A quick summary of Attipas shoes:
Lo first two Attipas |
Specially researched (for 7 years)& designed by Seoul University
A world first in toddlers shoes.
Functional toddler shoes which target ages from 3 months to 40 months to help walking quality of growth phased by babies.
The five key benefits of wearing Attipas shoes include:
1. Convenience: Strong, Smooth, Non-Slip, Machine Washable, Fast-Drying
2. Breathable: Superior breathable fine holes release heat (International Patent)
3. Big Toe Box: Free toe movement to improve cognitive and motor development
4. Safety: Non use of hazardous materials and adhesives, no use of Formaldehyde
5. Lightweight & Flexible: Super lightweight, just like wearing socks!
Attipas means Happy Rob Walker the name Attipas is derived from the words ‘Atti’ (Korean for ‘Precious Friend’), and ‘Pas’ (French for ‘Walk’).
In toddler speak, Attipas means Happy Walk!"
So I got these 2 shoes from KLCC Expo after failing to get from Isetan 1U (they no longer there) for lo to wear to an event hosted by us to attend that night. Lo cannot walk yet, but I find that the shoes is very attractive piece to match the outfit.
If you are able to wait for few days delivery, you may get it from the website below which is cheaper than the retail price RM90. http://www.tinkertoddler.com/
And about the myth of toddler can only wear shoes after 1 year, I further googled and found a closely logical answer which is that wearing shoes at early age may hinder the development of the toddlers leg. Which I personally think it is not a problem with Attipas since it has much room for the toe movement.
I then recommended to my colleague and she recommended to another... now both of my colleagues are getting them for the little ones too!

Apple Puree
Honestly speaking, to spend time in my kitchen making edible dishes is not my forte. However, I do intend to do homemade puree for lo when the time comes. But I got no idea how. Soon enough, it's time.
I wanted to start with Avocado recommended by many, but somehow I bumped into my cousin and she recommended apple, since it is better for digestion. So that very weekend I excitedly started with apple.
I thought I can use the Primada juicer grinder (because the lady promoting this item said it is good for grinding baby food, the carrot she demonstrated still juicy after grinding). That is the primary reason that attracted the grandma to get this item but the functionality of this juicer is equally impressive, the juices made from it does not turn brown, can make panmee noodle and etc (it has to be for the price of RM1727 all in).
And most importantly - easy to wash.
Back to topic, I grinned the apple and tried to sieve it but it turned watery. The grinned apple was not for lo's consumption yet. Perhaps the grinding meals will be few months later. So I ate them.
At night I googled on Apple puree and got the proper step. (You will want to ask me why I did not google earlier, I would probably say I thought I know how... )
Anyway, it was a success on 2nd day as per the pic.
The Combi set was a fullmoon gift. Simple review on the cooking set, it is very easy to use and wash. I'm not a fan of washing complicated stuff (aka blender). So this set is something simple to start with.
Steps to make apple puree:
- Cut one apple into dices and boiled it until it is rather soft (tested with fork)
- Pressed the boiled apple through the sieve
- Ready to serve (but make sure it is not hot).
It is too much for 1 feed.
Optional:
Store the balance into the storage cups accordingly and freeze it.
Thaw it in fridge and warm it up when next feed. (or my friend said fruits can served chill)
Like playing masak-masak. Interesting.

6 months - first milestone achieved!
Hospital and Paed advised me (and other mothers I believe) to bf baby for 6 months. "Ok" I said. But like my earlier post I was having a hard time to get the milk kicking in but did not give up till I had a freezer full. It did not happen in a breeze.
During my maternity of 2 months, I was not fully rested. It was a daily race and a tiring one when BB does not latch. Although later lo latched but mood dependent. Before my maternity ended, I was not sure how it will affect me at work since I was so tired even not working.
Things that I told my hb:
If I go back to work on the first week and I cannot take it, I will resign. He said OK.
If bf is so tiring, I shall stop after 3 months, I do not know how to survive till 6 months. He said OK.
Haha... perhaps he was trying to make my feel better since lack of rest is causing postnatal blues.
Anyway, I was not serious on the 2nd one and as a mother that has no milk to a freezer, perhaps it gives an idea on the level of hardwork and sacrifices that we mothers willing to go through for the little one. But one thing for sure, I did not know if the milk will last this long or not at that point of time.
The answer is: Yes, it can. You must continue to pump and DL consistently using a suitable pump.
Infact at the earlier stage of bf, I was awed when my friend told me she was still bf-ing his son of 8 months and another friend far away in another country bf till 4 yrs old. It is inspiring and in no time I was producing enough for mine and fulfilled my other wishes like bm donation, bm spa for lo, bm soap, etc too.
Everyday, a scheduled time is set for pumping:
At work: I have let go the social lunch time with colleagues since back from maternity
At shopping: Nursing room has been a definite visit for weekend shopping
At wedding/holiday trip/everywhere I go: The pumping bag is with me and will MIA every now and then
I have just graduated the first 6 months milestone. It has been a fulfilling journey which we followed the path of inconveniences to give the best to lo.
Lo too is heading to another phase - solid food. But paed told me not to replace his milk with solid. Solid is an additional to this current feedings. They may or may not skip the milk (due to more active and playful) later, just monitor his intake and try not to let his weight drop. As I've mastered providing bm, now I have to master another skill which was not my strength, preparing solid for lo (another unforeseen result)
To prepare lo for solid, I've got these items ready.
- fresh food feeder (no choking if eating solid)
- safety spoon (will turn white if too hot)
- silicone spoon
- easy squeezy spoon
- spoon trainer (for bb to feed themselves)
- mighty grip utensil set 18mth+
- soft tip infant spoons
However, no signs of stopping bm yet, so the journey continues..... since passing the 6 months mark, the rest is a bonus...

Additional items owned...Optional
In addition to Fridge To Go family, finally I owned this Roller FTG. Fell for this earlier but was unable to get it here or Sg. Thought it would be good for traveling to keep EBM/FBM but after using Victoria and Mini Fridge, for short trip less than 5 days, Victoria would be sufficient.
However, when I had the chance to get this, I did not think twice. Although do not know when will have chance to use this, but I like it as a part of FTG collection, and it completed my wish.
LOVE IT!
Medela Wipes
This is the wipes and only brand that is said to have wipe for breastpump.
FS Spare parts kit
Bought as spare incase anything happen to my current one. Plus some people said the membrane needs to be replaced as it will worn out someday. Or when need to use and not able to wash the first set (This not likely as already have the wipes).
Medela Lanolin
I think this is similar to Purelan 100. Just bought it for testing. Alternatively, apply own bm also can.

Shortcuts
Being a first time mother, everything is a learning experience. And soon enough you will be looking for shortcuts to doing things to save time. Because 24 hours is just not enough!
BOTTLES!
First month, I had CL to help around, but yet I still got no enough rest. 2nd month first week was tiring. BB do not latch, so he was bottlefed. At that time the supply has not stabilize, so sometimes fm past midnight and sometimes warm up ebm. In the morning, there will be 4 feeding bottles to wash, and another 4 storage bottles if ebm. I calculated, including storage and feeding bottles daily will be around 20 bottles to wash + pump parts. It was tiring.
*Mistake was I bought the wide neck Pigeon storage bottles (before delivery) which is not compatible with my pump. So after pump, it was transferred to the storage bottles causing extra washing.
Shortcut: Addition to 6 Medela storage bottles, I bought 10 bumble bee's storage bottles that is compatible to the pump so I can pump directly and store without transferring. Pheww.... ok so less than 20 bottles now, but still at least 16 per day.
STERILIZER vs DISH DRYER
So sterilizer is one of the common thing needed, so I thought. Thankfully my cousin passed on to me Avent sterilizer. But throughout confinement, CL just used boiling water. The 2nd month, I took it out to use for the first time (I have pump parts, feeding and storage bottles to sterilize). So I arranged it all in, looks congested and when it's done, carefully take it out. Which I find the arrangement and taking it out carefully was time consuming. (boiling would have been more efficient then)
After each use, need to wash the sterilizer (take the entire thing with the plug to wash (but not wash the plug ya)). So after that one time, I packed it back.
*So many bottles n pump to wash still need to wash the sterilizer after sterilizing... not helpful
Shortcut: Panasonic dish dryer, temp up to 70 degrees. Dries the bottles and pump parts. After wash, just dump all in to dry. My saviour.
DIRECT LATCH
This has been one of the most amazing thing that one can experience, especially for me as my lo rejected for about a month or so. After he got used to latching, I was able to dream feed him as well as go into dreamland myself. So much easier for FTWM (full time working mom).
- I got my rest/sleep at night although not 8 hours straight but I get to rest.
- no longer 8 bottles to wash in the morning, at most only wash pump parts
- 20 bottles to wash has been cut down to max 4 on weekdays and 8 on weekends max.
- pump frequency lesser, less washing as well
- bonding with baby
- no longer need to bring hot flask and mug to warm EBM when going out
Do you have any shortcuts to share? :)

Success! EBM from Bandung....
We had a company trip to Bandung on 6-9 Oct 2013. This trip was planned while I was pregnant and obviously did not foresee my breastfeeding journey in it then. After a successful trip bringing back EBM from HK in August, I was not too sure what to expect in Bandung because this time I'm traveling with a group of people, engaged with a tour, staying with a roommate, so unlike my free and easy personal trip to HK.
Nevertheless, I was still determined to bring back my EBM and planned my daily pumping schedule according to situation. I brought a shawl pinned it like a nursing cover as I may likely need to pump everywhere. I have not done this before.
DAY1
My flight to Bandung was at 1.40pm, and meet up the rest at 11.30am. So I pumped before leaving home, thus I do not have to pump in the flight toilet like I did for HK. The next session was at the hotel room upon arrival. It was then more than 5 hours. I quickly asked for a key while they settled the rooms for the rest because the tour is moving after everyone dropped off their luggage in the room. Settled in 15 mins. Then at night pumped in the room with my shawl. My lady boss said she can leave me alone in the room if I want, but I guess not necessary unless she mind :). So day1 done.
DAY2
Next morning pumped before bfast 6.30am local time. Then we headed to Tangkuban Perahu about an hour journey from hotel. Unfortunately it was closed due to active vulcano happened a day before. So we went to Hotspring, which we spent about an hour.
Thereafter to Floating Market when unexpectedly we spent about 2 hours plus. So I quickly walked to the bus and get my equipment and find a hut to pump when I realized we were not leaving that soon. The place is quite huge, so you can easily get a spot to pump.
It was indeed a very relaxing place and cooling weather. But this is not
hidden as the tourist will passby, but they will not walk up to you if it is occupied. As I took out the equipments, I
realized I left the bottles in the bus! To walk to the bus and walk back here will take around 15 minutes, so I did not.
This was my first public pumping which is already a challenge, but in addition I have to hold both sides with storage bags. Obviously it was a bit chaotic, leaking when the storage bags closed up but eventually managed to overcome it. To adjust the pump accordingly with the imbalance storage bags, I got no choice but to go under the shawl like a turtle hiding in its shell. Then resurface again and enjoying the breeze while pumping.
After lunch we were taken to Toko Tiga and they spent quite some time there thus delayed our Transtudio visit to 5pm.
Transtudio is the only tourist place that I know have nursing room. So it was settled there after the first 4D Marvels experience and continued with the other rides.
Had late dinner around 9pm then back to the hotel to do the motherly duty before going to bed.
Each night after returning to the hotel, I would wash the pump parts and bottles, boiling water to sterilize them, moving about in the room and the washroom. My ladyboss whom was seated on her bed suddenly said, "you make me look very free"... haha...
DAY3
As usual morning routine, then out to Kawah Putih after breakfast. It is a 2 hours journey, but our bus had some cable problem and stopped for 30 mins to fix it. Thereafter almost everyone including me fell asleep till we reach destination. I should have pumped in the bus before we reached but too late to realize that it was already 4 hours since I pumped. So we went in for about 1.5 hours, took lots of pic, but this place is not suitable for pumping.
As we hopped on the bus, I pumped with the shawl when the guide said about 20 mins to lunch place. Relieved!
Lunch place weather was cool and nice and headed back to Bandung for another session of shopping. Before everyone boarded the bus after the shopping, I hopped in for my pumping session.
We had early dinner and was sent back to the hotel. Thereafter we walked to Ciwot (Cihampelas Walk), is a mall and this is where I had my shopping spree for lo. Motherly duty after gathering sessions with the rest in one of their rooms.
DAY4
Put all my EBM into my FTG cooler bag after my morning session. Checked out at 9am. FTG then placed into my extra luggage bag and left it on the bus. Taken to Pasar Baru which is a wholesale market but less than 30mins we decided to go back to CIWOT, cos most of them did not go on Day3 and we were there for only an hour. Everyone was happy to shop at CIWOT than the wholesale market.
Had a quick lunch before everyone is done, I boarded the bus again for pumping. After lunch we were taken to Jalan Riau where Heritage, The Summit and few others are located. So everyone went shopping craze there. My extra bag with only FTG, by now is full with plastic bags, no more empty space. Then we headed to airport.
My last session for this trip, was on the plane. This time, I looked around and the flight was not full. When the seatbelt sign went off, I went to the back row. I read somewhere that the supply will be affected if you are in the air, but I got 8oz then.
I stayed at De Batara Hotel, central location and the staff was very helpful. It does not have minibar but they helped me to store at their cafe chiller and freezer. This time, all of the EBM was left chilled. Only freeze the icepacks. The FTG cooler bag were left in their freezer the whole time. Upon going home, I added 2 sheets of 4pcs technii ice, 1 Autumn icepack and 1 Medela ice contour into the FTG together with the EBM.
Flight was at 7.20pm, arrived home 11+pm, so it was more than 13 hours journey for my chilled EBM since it left the hotel. But the Autumn Ice pack is only 1/3 melted and 2/3 like rock.
Overall, bf is possible even during tour and did not cause delay to anyone. Just need to plan and MIA for a short while here and there. Am glad to have learned to pump in the bus, on the plane and public places.
Almost 100oz is home :)

Not all babies DL from Day 1...
Bf does not come naturally as I thought. It wasn't as easy as well, but once you hanged on to it, it is not difficult too.
Unlike many babies, my lo cried each time I tried to latch him when he was hungry. At one time, he would rather close his eyes and sleep than to latch (and yes, he was hungry and crying for milk before that, and when offered he closed his eyes and sleep!). If only I could record his reaction that moment, like "got attitude" look. And he really slept.
So I left with no choice but pump. And the yield was not much like I mentioned in my previous post. I was determined even if he does not latch, I will supply him BM through EP (exclusive pumping) as I read there was people successfully become EP mum. Although my doc said if do not latch, and only pump the milk will become lesser and lesser. Anyhow, I was determined myself. The yield increased by day.
During the 3rd week noon, I was alone with lo in the room, he was half awake and he latched for the first time! (He latched a while in hosp on the 2nd day but it was very brief then rejected). I was so happy that I whatsapp a few ppl (whom knew he refused latching) and they were so happy for me.
But come the next feeding he refused again. So it was off and on, till the 2nd month. But it's a good start.
I keep on offering daily without fail.
And one day decide to try to sleeping pose and guess what? He latched... for 2 hours! Thereafter, I find it so much easier to latch for night feedings where both me and hb can rest. So no more waking up to warm up ebm, no more buckets of bottles to wash in the morning, and so on.
Now, lo seems to know where to look for his milk although he was introduced to bottle first, it has become his 2nd choice. DL becomes his priority over bottle.

Red Dates drink
I started drinking this during my 4th month of pregnancy which I find boosted up my energy as the first 3 months I was basically not able to do much. Throwing up even when not consuming does not leave you much energy and of course I steadily lost 7kg then.
Although it was then energy booster and I wished I knew it earlier, I heard it should not be consumed for the first 3 months. Well... means I still have to go through what I went through then. Also, same people said cannot drink after 8 months pregnant till you deliver. I forgot why.
But I drank till almost deliver, perhaps not on daily basis like now. I alternate with boiling American Ginseng (the small white pieces), and when I am lack of time, I would just soak the AG pieces in boiling water instead of cooking in slow cooker.
Red dates drink is a drink that most chinese take after delivery for the entire month. I'm still taking it even after confinement and possibly, likely, maybe, that this helps to maintain the bm supply. I think.
The ingredient during my pregnancy:
20 or so red dates (depending on the size, you may adjust yourself)
11 or so black dates (depending on the size, you may adjust yourself)
2-3 honey dates (depends how sweet you want)
3 finger size of tong sum (Radix Codonopsis (Dang Shen) http://www.tcmtreatment.com/herbs/0-dangshen.htm)
wolfberry (kei chi) - agak agak 2-3 pinch
After delivery, the above add these:
dried longan (20 or so depending on your taste)
black beans (optional) - agak agak 2-3 pinch
Black beans is optional but read somewhere that it increases milk supply. However, need to be fried after you buy back the packed ones then only use to boil it together with the rest. After frying the entire pack, you can keep in a glass bottle and use it next time as you not able to finish the entire pack at once.
The measurement above is just a guideline for 3L slow cooker, you may do your own measurement and see the result if it's what you like. My friend bought a prepacked and boiled, and her feedback is it tasted sour, but mine she tasted sweet.
I usually leave it to boil in slow cooker overnight, but it can be consumed after 4 hours though.
Good luck!

BB poster photo
I am an avid fan of photobook and done a series of them for my trips before I got pregnant. Although wanted to do one for my lo, could not find the time (yet).
One day I received an email regarding Poster Photo promotion and read through it. Seems interesting and something that I have not done before. Finally, on the day the promo ended, managed to create 4 customized Premium posters with Pixajoy. Although wanted to do some with more pictures on it, but I was running out of time and the selection of photos is time consuming. So I used the templates with max 6 photos.
Quick and easy to use and once done, it is added to the cart then paid. It arrives within 3 working days, I am delighted to receive them. At least have some photos printed out. *happy mode*

Fulfilled!
2 of my wish list fulfiled on Merdeka Day.
BM DONATED
Donated some of the FBM to a 33 weeks preemie, arranged with the mom to send to her on Merdeka Day at hospital. Continuous prayers for him as he has blood infection. Was told by the nurse that the freezer is almost full as some other mommies have donated as well, but she took in anyways. Did not manage to meet up with the mom as I was early.
Still do not consider myself with a lot of backup FBM but for case this urgent, able to advance some and told myself to be more hardworking (as a little laid back after HK trip - adjusting back to normal routine).
Have a friend too asking to spare for her, but I told her I'm not giving her because I want her to pump! Haha... (but she knows if she needs it, and I have extras, she is next in my list).
BM SOAP
Forgot to include this in my previous wish list, but it was at the corner of my mind when one of my friend posted her BM Soap pic (then only I knew such thing exist). But it was still just a thought at that time when I have none to spare.
Then recently, saw one mommy (SAHM) posted that she is making BM soap to raise funds for Adele, a special angel. Then I messaged her for further understanding of the soap and somehow we managed to meet on Merdeka noon at Pyramid. Used my pack of FBM labelled "Bathe" (supposingly for bathing) as my eyelashes fell into the bottle (filling at max! - 7oz). I would cry if this happen on my earlier days. It was carefully taken out using the pump membrane though. Plus 1oz chilled BM. She needs 8oz (240ml).
She said it takes about 6 weeks to complete it. Shall wait to see the result.

For this special angel....Adele
Read the story of this special angel, and her matured 4 years old sister and unconditional loving parents after seeing people raising funds for her.

You may verify with mommy Mei Yean: https://www.facebook.com/mei.yean.92
Also one mummy is doing breastmilk soap to raise funds for this angel as she is a SAHM (Stay At Home Mom). Very thoughtful.

Bringing EBM back from HK
This is a challenging task for first time mother. I surveyed for a month and finally did it!
Refer HERE for the items I have prepared
HOTEL
I wrote to a few hotels after shortlisting it to see if they have minibar in the room and if they can assist me in freezing the bm. From my research, for such a short trip (4d3n), the bm does not need to be frozen but I decided to freeze the first 2 days for testing and leave the rest chilled.
Ibis North Point - do not provide freezer for guests use.
BEST WESTERN Hotel Harbour View - helpful manager replied saying they will help me to freeze
Silka West Kowloon - the freezer has raw meat, thus they are unable to assist
Hotel Bonaparte by Rhombus - "We could provide freezer service with reasonable size item"
So I went ahead with the last one since they have FREE Cancellation allowed 48 hours prior to booking date. The room is rather small but the location is good (central). Their service is very good too and helpful to me.
FIRST DAY
- Pumped in flight washroom once the seatbelt sign went off. So nobody was waiting for me.
- Upon arrival at the hotel, put all my icepack/ice contour, Mini Fridge folded and the BM inside Victoria and handed to hotel staff to freeze.
**Mistake to put all in one bag (although organized), but the items did not get frozen. Just very cold or half frozen the next day.
SECOND DAY
- Stored my midnight and morning bm in Medela cooler bag. Freeze one icepack n Medela ice contour in Victoria and took the mini fridge with one icepack out with me.
- Pumped twice at Citygate Mall. They do not have nursing room but they provide me with this cover. Yes, they are helpful and although it was at Lobby, but not many people passing by this area.
-Used pacifier wipes to clean after first use.
FREEZE
- Stored all into Medela cooler bag at hotel freezer.
- Folded the mini fridge and store it separately
- Put all the icepacks into Victoria
THIRD DAY
- All the BM today onwards from morning pumped is left chilled in the minibar.
- Pumped twice before leaving the hotel (once when awake early and another time after breakfast). This is better because can wash the pump with warm water and sterilize at hotel.
- In the evening, pumped at Harbour City nursing room. It only has one room, so if in use can sit at the nursing area, but daddy can feed baby there too.
- Since I'm leaving tomorrow:
1. I cut out the techni ice sheet into 2 smaller sheets (4pcs each) and soak it for few minutes and it will be filled with water, Did not use the entire sheets as afraid not enough space.
2. This time, I followed the staff to the freezer and placed all my FTG opened and only Medela cooler bag with milk zipped. This is to allow all the ice pack and freezing panels to freeze better. (Able to do this because only my items there)
FOURTH DAY
Requested late checkout. They allowed till 2pm.
- last pump at 1pm, then packed all the frozen and chilled bm at 1.30pm.
Victoria stored:
- The the chilled BM
- added 2 Autumnz ice packs and 4 techni ice in 1 sheet
- Still have room for more
The mini fridge stored the following and max out:
-5 packs of various sizes bm (5.5-11oz)
-4 techni ice in 1 sheet
-Placed the entire mini fridge in the Styrofoam and closed it (did not tape), it's ok as bag is fully occupied.
Took Medela cooler bag and ice contour with me to airport.
Pumped at HK airport nursing room. Spacious individual room at departure hall.
At check-in counter, they have no problem with check-in bm, told them to put fragile sticker on the bags.
But they insisted me to check in my hand-carry chilled bm saying that immigration will not let pass and have cases people need to discard the bm at immigration because over 100ml limit and no baby with you. I repeatedly told them a "friend" (tban mom) just back from HK last week and np with hand-carry bm, but they said you may try your luck.
Hb then talked to an elderly staff (man) who is directing the guests to counter and he agreed that bm should be hand-carried. He said what if the luggage missing or sent wrongly then how to reimburse back since it cannot be bought and your baby has nothing to eat (haha). Kudos to him and he said he will bring us through the custom. He waited at the customs and spoken to them and I was just asked to open the cooler bags and went thru. Phewww....
*counter staff need some briefing on this as they are scaring people like me (even though I was confident can bring through)
Flight delayed for an hour plus. Reached home at 12.30am.
Chilled bm still chilled and the icepack /ice sheet still mostly frozen.
Frozen bm in mini fridge slightly thawed at the side.
But all in good condition. Almost 100oz safely home. Thank God.

I've made it!
DAILY CONSUMPTION
Looking at mothers with freezer full of frozen bm is a motivation. When I just had drops, they have a freezer. When or will I ever be like them? It was just a wish, then I told myself, I do not need a freezer full, I just hope to have sufficient for lo's daily need. I worked towards that and achieved. However everyday is a race, but I won the race once the supply stabilize.
I've made it!
MILK BATH
When you have just enough supply, to pour the milk for bath although is good will still not be in the list. But it is in my wishlist that someday, someday my lo can enjoy this even if just for once. That day I have some extras and carried some for outings and did not finish it. And since it was not chilled by the end of the day, the next day I put the milk for lo's bath.
I've made it!
FROZEN BM
I'm still awing at other mommies freezer full photos from time to time knowing mine just a daily supply. Then, one month to HK trip. I need to store for lo.. I started my planning to have at least 100oz to standby for that few days when I am away. So I started to collect and freeze them, careful calculation so that I can store in time for lo. And the day before my trip, I have collected over 100oz for lo
Not yet freezer full, but I've made it!
BM DONATION
Saw some TBAN mummies requesting for bm. My friend tagged me if I could help, at THAT TIME I was just supplying enough for lo, not even having extra's to keep and on a daily race. Hopefully someday, I will be able to make it for this too.

Preparation for EBM while traveling...
A month before my travel date, I surveyed on how to bring back my ebm via friends, google and tban members' posts. The last thing to do would be to discard the ebm. So I read A LOT to plan.
Hope this post will ease other mums in their planning and budget estimation. Things that I bought for ebm purpose:
UPRIGHT FREEZER
This is a dedicated freezer for storing FBM. As I would need to collect the FBM for lo's feeding while I am away. It is more hygienic.
Before getting this, the bm in the storage bags were stored inside lock n lock type of containers at the normal 3 doors fridge.
Brand: Elba
Price: RM899 (Retail RM999)
Bought from: De Home Biz, One City (Subang)
COOLER BAG - FRIDGE TO GO
Someone blog that this is the best cooler bag to have. Researched online and went to see it at Babyjaya at Uptown, however they do not have Victoria (12 cans) with removable panel. Both are stated up to 12 hours cooling and with removable cooling panels. Bought from Singapore.
Mini Fridge - 6 cans size (up to 12 hours)
Price: SGD$69
Victoria - 12 cans size (up to 12 hours)
Price: SGD$89
Bought from: Takashimaya, Singapore
Reason to get this:
1. It has cooling panel inside, can fill in more in the cooler bag.
2. Can be folded - Easier storage for traveling before filling in anything
3. Easy freezing - Fold and freeze the entire bag in the freezer
4. Up to 12 hours - the lesser hours cooling are cheaper but good to get up to max hours if intend to use for traveling. It has 6/9/12 hours and mine is marked 12 hours. Take note as they look the same!
5. Removable panel - It has built-in panel (cheaper than removable panel), this is optional depending on your preference. The benefit is that you can remove the panel if you do not need all, thus lighter (but usually for traveling you will need all) and you may just freeze the panel without freezing the bag.
BUDS ORGANIC BREAST MASSAGE OIL
Protect the skin as well as some claimed can increase supply.
Maybe yes.
Price: RM55 (Retail: RM59.90)
Bought from: TBAN
THE FIRST YEARS PACIFIER WIPES
Safely Cleans:
• Pacifiers, Teething Toys, Bottles & Cups
• Safe - No Alcohol or Harmful Chemicals
• Easy On The Go Cleaning
Spared this to clean pump, since unable to get Medela Pump Wipes on time. More cost effective too. Only used once during travel anyway.
Price: RM9.90
AUTUMNZ STORAGE BAGS
-Bought 12oz and 7oz
-12oz is useful when you have more than 7oz per pump and save storage space
Price: RM25.80 3packs promo
Bought from: Babyland, SS2
Price: RM9.00 (BB Fair)
(Retail: RM12.90)
TECHNI ICE SHEET /ICEPACK
- Easier to bring along for traveling (like a paper before soak in water).
-Bought due to reviews saying it can last long hours.
-Can cut into smaller size
Price: RM28/sheet
Bought from: Babyland, SS2
I brought along 2 Autumnz Ice pack:
- For extra chilling when return
Price: RM15 per pack of 3
Bought from: Baby Expo AND
Medela Ice Contour:
For daily use with Medela cooler bag when I'm not using FTG Mini Fridge bag.
STYROFOAM BOX (SMALL)
- Double assurance for the fbm to stay frozen
- Double assurance of no leakage if have additional ice packs
- Plan to check in in luggage
Price: RM7.90
Bought from: AEON Jusco, Pyramid
STORAGE BOTTLES
- 8 Pigeon wide mouth bottles (bought during preg), now using for freezing, not compatible for pumping.
- 10 bumble bee (compatible with FS pump) - ease storage and less washing of bottles, stored freshly pumped milk for chilling. Fully filled for lo's feeding before using the frozen ones.
- 6 Medela bottles - took along during trip for pumping usage.
MEDELA PURELAN 100
- This cream is to be used after each pumping session.
TOWEL/TUPPERWARE/BOTTLES CLEANSER
- Stored pump parts in small tupperware (on right behind the bottle) to bring around. At night can use the tupperware to soak and wash the pump + sterilize in hot water. 3 in 1 usage.
My hb claimed it is his mini washing machine, as when he washed he will close the lid and shake the tupperware and bubbles will appear.
- Lay the pump parts on the towel to dry it.
- Bring a small tube of bottle cleanser for cleaning
TROLLEY BACKPACK
Last but not least, a trolley backpack. Can be used as backpack or trolley when things get heavy. A helpful item for daily use while traveling.
I put my Medela bag with pump inside when going out and stored shopping items in it and carry my Medela bag after shopping. So less shopping bags to carry.
When flying home, I put my Victoria FTG cooler bag filled with bm in this bag because the BM is heavy as handcarry.
Price: FREE from JohnMaster (freegift during CNY Johnmaster purchase). Good quality and useful freegift.
Ready for the trip!
**(Infact I only got the techni ice sheet, wipes and more storage bags in the morning before traveling) and the rest around 2 weeks before.

BM or FM?
"Will you breastfeed or formula? Which formula brand you will use?" This is a common question nearing due date.
My reply: "Breastfeed IF I have milk". Formula will be using Enfalac A+.
My thought at that time: Not everyone have milk. And cousins using Enfalac A+ which they reviewed good. And people around me that gave birth not too long (that I know of) stop breastfeeding after 1 month. Either supply stopped or by choice due to work.
Honestly, during pregnancy I read on weekly pregnancy, surveyed on strollers, car seat, except for breastfeeding materials. Reason: Breastfeeding "should" be a natural thing. As near due, TBAN posting appeared on my FB and saw many mommies pressured with no milk and unhappy. If no milk, give formula. Why pressure? Since having baby is a happy thing - My thought.
Bought Pureen pump via recommendation too, no survey done. As long as it is electrical pump. Hb went to buy when I was 4 months pregnant and still very weak.
So delivered and no sign of milk during my 2 nights stay in hosp. Just enjoying BB by my side. Tried to latch but BB reject, mouth small the nurse said. LC asked to buy nippleshield, but it did not work as well. No pressure, just let hospital feed BB.
Back home, hb went to buy formula. 5th day, engorgement came. Tried pump but only few drops. (Honestly, I was still happy with that few drops because at least have something.
Took pic and sent to hb when successfully pumped few drops, he asked me "What is that?". Too little till not obvious it was colostrum. Then I hand expressed. One hour each side and got maybe 10-15ml? It was pathetically low. Tiring because each time I would hand express (less pain) 1 hour each side and the Pureen pump did not suit me, so put it aside.
Changed pump to Medela Mini Electric. At first try, it works but and the time used cut to half and hour each side. To save time I would pump when eating or pump one side and hand express the other. Sometimes just hand express as still adjusting to the pain. Maybe out of 5-6 times pumping per day, 3 times I hand expressed.
Then when I started to mix BM to FM, I recorded BB's intake. Then slowly become more ambitious (like kiasu attitude), each yield want to have enough for lo per feed (60-75ml). Tiring but still yield till have the amount I aimed (but must be practical - lah). From one feed to few feeds I cut down FM. Feeling great. Then I know the reason why some mommies are so pressured to provide BM. Because that "someday" I would like my BB to be having bm fully too. So I managed to fully BM one day, I gave myself a "star" on my record book. Collecting for few days and one day I almost fully BM but have to mix FM for 1 feed, that's when I felt the pressure because I failed to get the "star" just because of one feed FM.
But I continued to keep my objective in mind, and succeeded. I get a daily "stars" till now.
Still not sure how long I can continue the journey, but would like to continue as long as I can supply. So decided to get my own double pump (easier when working and save time). This time I read a lot reviews on Freestyle and started to understand why Medela is preferred choice despite the high price. Fell in love with the double pump Freestyle. And since I'm ok with the Mini, FS should be suitable.
Just before fullmoon, hb bought the Freestyle from Sg. I thought will become EP mum since lo reject latching until 3rd week and non consistent although daily I will try to offer him, but he will cry out LOUD. But after fullmoon he started to latch and I DL for midnight feedings.
After 5 weeks, he is FULLY BREASTFEED. The FM that we bought as "spare" was donated away thru TBAN. Now at 3mo+, he prefers to DL.

Journey till delivery
Recorded on 12 August 2013:
3rd months onwards
Oct-Nov - Not be able to eat. Each checkup with gynae, I told her have been vormitting. Her advise repeatedly was "eat small portion, eat some crackers". Did not provide medication.
Dec - Appetite returned. But still vormiting. At least have strength to move around. Lost 7kgs in total since vormitting from Sept.
Jan-Feb - Great months! Nausea subsided and appetite is good. Gained 5kg in Jan and 1 kg in Feb from 7 weeks weight. Meeting people happily and moving around with the baby inside feeling wonderful. Tummy still wasn't obvious.
March-April - The nausea returned. Doc prescribed medicine to control it.Taken when necessary. Selected date for delivery 2 May 2013. Last checkup baby measured 2.6kg. Doc asked if can delay one more week or the date in accordance to feng shui? Haha... we said no. She said "if not in a hurry, why not wait another week (I was not due)". She said baby's weight can be +-400 when deliver. She also said, it would be better if baby is out bigger so we can take care easily. What worries us and her is that the baby is -400 (is still ok according to her but if can just wait one more week).
6 May 2013 - final checkup. BB weighed 2.77kg. Doc said OK, give me your date, any date next week. I asked repeatedly, doc the weight is OK? increased so little. She didn't seem worry and replied "at least it is increasing, just feed well after delivery. It's fine." She seemed confident. So we gave her a date and booked for the OT. BTW, she is Dr Delaila from SDMC, the best gynae I would recommend to anyone.
9 May 2013 - BB was born weighing 2.53kg. Small size but passing mark. How this little person came into the world.... a miracle that popped out from my tummy... so wonderful.

The first 2 months...
Due to recent experienced of late, I decided not to fall for the thought that I have possibly conceived. Many false symptoms were given recently that lead to disappointment. So I refused to check or test until I was asked to go somewhere, then I bought a HPT to test. If positive, I will not go.
11 Sept 2012 - Tested with HPT ... result 2 lines. Smile.
But still not "too believe" the result until doctor confirm. Waited another few more days to ensure that it is really late.
16 Sept 2012 - Went to gynae, the same one I saw when I had false symptoms. She scanned, "see the sac?" Congratulations!
18 Sept 2012 - Fainting symptoms like low blood pressure. Not feeling too well thereafter.
19 Sept 2012 - Noon, went to toilet and when wiped, bleeding. No flow, but each time wipe was bleeding - red and filled entire toilet paper.
20-21 Sept 2012 - Spotting, brownish (like end of period).
21 Sept 2012 - Went to doc. "Baby is Ok, but internally still bleeding". Doc gave bed rest MC. "Please do not move much, stay in bed for 1 week."
22 Sept 2012 - Unable to get out of bed, very sick. Slept till dinner time.
28 Sept 2012 - Checkup, still weak not able to eat. Doc gave another week MC. Life is bored. Not able to do anything.
8 Oct 2012 - Pink tissue discharged into the toilet bowl. When wipe, it's fresh pink.
12 Oct 2012 - Doc scanned, "BB looks fine." But she is not taking chances, 1 more week MC. Still not able to eat and vomiting.
